Viking Cruises is preparing to launch more new Viking summer Mediterranean cruises, said Bill George, president and CEO, Viking Cruises, in a recent statement. “With the addition of 10 ships to our current fleet of 32, we are well positioned to offer more than 40 new weekly departures that include new itineraries from Barcelona, Barcelona, Athens, Barcelona, and Barcelona to the Mediterranean this summer and fall,” he said.

The Time Bandit is a Viking ship that will start a summer of Mediterranean sailing for 2011. The ship is sailing from Venice, Italy, to Barcelona, Spain, and will visit ports along the way, including Dubrovnik, Croatia; Palma, Mallorca, Spain; and Palermo, Sicily. The July 11 sailing is on Viking’s new ship, the Viking Ocean, which is powered by two of the most advanced diesels on the market, featuring the latest CODAC technology. The new ships offer a choice of six interiors that feature everything from carpeted cabins to wood panelling.

Viking has announced new details about its upcoming Welcome Back flights in the Mediterranean, which will start in July.

During the summer and early fall, the cruise line will send three ocean-going ships – Viking Star, Sea and Venus – on three different 11-night round trips from Valletta, Malta, to the Mediterranean.

The announcement comes at a time when the Maltese government has relaxed rules on the arrival of foreign visitors, including Americans. Like many other countries, Malta has developed a traffic light system for incoming travellers.

Last week, Malta put most U.S. states and territories on the yellow list. This means that persons on the Orange List can enter Malta with the confirmation of a negative PCR test for COVID-19 performed at least 72 hours prior to arrival.

Also last week, the European Union recommended that its member states lift restrictions on travel from the United States.

The seventh. In June, the CDC announced a relaxation of travel advisories for 110 countries and territories. Under the new recommendations, the agency has placed Malta at Level 1, the lowest risk level of COVID 19.
