The NSW government has warned that personal information from up to 186,000 customers of the My Health Record system was compromised in the 2017 cyberattack. In a statement released on Friday, the NSW Department of Health said the attack occurred in April 2017 when a third party, believed to be a foreign government, accessed the personal data of approximately 102,000 customers.
The New South Wales Government’s executive agency, namely Service NSW, confirms that a recent cyber-attack in the country resulted in a data breach of approximately 180,000 customers. This applies to both customers and employees. Customers were particularly affected and 47 employees had email security problems.
The investigation, which began in April 2023, shows that about 4.0 million documents need to be properly analyzed to determine the severity of the cyber attack. The documents belong to different categories. These records include handwritten notes, forms, scanned images, and transaction records.
NSW authorities say the incident is a criminal attack.
